Fourth Annual EarthWorks Expo Announces Keynote Speakers: Authors John Michael Greer and Michael C. Ruppert
Speakers to discuss how impending peak oil crisis will impact civilization, and action plans for green societies of the future
DENVER, Colo., Jan. 27, 2010 – EarthWorks Expo, Denver’s most informative and empowering annual green-living event, announced two popular authors who will provide keynote talks on the energy crisis facing the planet at the fourth annual EarthWorks Expo slated for May 22-23, 2010 at the Denver Merchandise Mart. John Michael Greer, author of The Ecotechnic Future and The Long Descent and Michael C. Ruppert, author of Confronting Collapse and Crossing the Rubicon will discuss the peak oil crisis, its impact on civilization and action plans for sustainable societies of the future.
Keynote Speakers
- John Michael Greer will speak at the Expo on Saturday, May 22 at 1:30 p.m. He is an author of 20 books, a scholar of ecological history, a Druid leader, environmentalist and organic gardener. His blog, The Archdruid Report is a respected weekly commentary on the social and economic implications of peak oil and the impending end of cheap energy. His talk, “The Long Road to the Green Future,” will address how our own actions here and now, in light of growing energy constraints and climate change, can help plant the seeds of green societies going forward.
- Michael C. Ruppert will speak on Sunday, May 23 at 12:30 pm. He is a former Los Angeles Police Department officer turned investigative journalist who founded the influential website “From the Wilderness” and stars in the documentary film Collapse currently screening in select theaters nationwide. His talk, “State of the Lifeboat,” sees our way of life on the verge of complete collapse unless steps are taken to mitigate the depleting supply of oil and dwindling arable land. Ruppert outlines a plan of action, including the creation of a second strategic petroleum reserve for the use of state and local governments, implementation of a national Feed-in Tariff mandating that electric utilities pay 3 percent above market rates for all surplus electricity generated from renewable sources, and an emergency program for soil restoration and sustainable agriculture.
“We are honored to offer Denver Metro and the Front Range two of the most preeminent critical thinkers of our time,” said Michael Lindemann, Expo Director. “Greer and Ruppert lay out a plausible future with actionable plans for a sustainable planet. Considering that our society is in its eleventh hour of ‘business as usual,’ we need voices of reason to outline alternative societal constructs that define a sustainable future for us all. These speakers introduce compelling and thought-provoking ideas that promise lively discussions.”
